For conspicious gallantry and devotion to duty near Villers Bretonneux on May 3rd 1918. As sergeant of the "mopping up" party he showed extreme coolness and courage. Although wounded badly in both thighs Sgt Davies refused to go out of action and single handed took prisoners 6 of the enemy. When ordered to go back to the dressing station he took back prisoners with him and before getting his wounds dressed sent in a report on the situation at a time when it was most obscure. His gallantry and devotion to duty were of the highest quality and his work throughout the operation worthy of the highest praise. |
